It’s noisy.

That’s the hard truth of the matter. The world is noisy. It is full of noise that we create, noise that we welcome, noise that we tolerate, noise we never asked for, and noise that, sometimes, rattles us to our core.

As I’ve gotten older there has been one thing that has continued to to challenge me and that was just this. Noise.

I am one of those people that moves through life making noise. I appreciate verbal processing, I like to feel connected through communication and I totally judge the quality of a friendship on the number of random, mundane facts I know about people.

But this has consistently doubled back as something challenges me. As much as I love the noise, the more noise I have surrounding me the harder it is for me to stay focused on the callings of my own values, heart, and desires. The more I seek out noise and connection, the more it forms a codependent reality that makes my intrinsic drive and pride no longer seem like enough.

If you are like me, I write this because I want you to know that ultimately you aren’t alone, but that also it’s important to be aware.

The more awareness I’ve found, the quicker I am able to regulate when I can feel the pang of noise, whether it be the overwhelming volume, or the silence that is sometimes more deafening for a verbal processor.

Pay attention to your values.

Find the true source of our wellness, happiness, and peace. In my case, the strong my faith and relationship with Jesus has grown, the more tolerable these experiences are.

You are so important, and the world needs more time with you. If your world feels noisy, I wish I could sit with you, cover your ears with my hand and cover you with prayers that you find quick peace and regulation. You’ll see the other side.
